A Gathering of Communities:
The Power of Our Stories for Collective Healing

Join us on Saturday, November 9, 2024 for our annual conference, A Gathering of Communities: The Power of Our Stories for Collective Healing. At this event, we will bring people together to build a movement for a healing-centered Chicago. We invite you for a fun, interactive, and inspiring conference that blends conversations, workshops, art, and food amongst youth, families, and community members from throughout the city.

As we build community, strategize, and collectively share healing practices with the goal of envisioning the future of Chicago through the lens of equity and wellness. Here's what to expect day of:

Workshops

Beyond the Badges: Reimagine safety in our communities

In this workshop, participants will reflect on the history of policing, explore what real safety looks like, and decide for themselves who should respond to crises and community needs.

Led by: Social Movement Support Lab

Translation into Spanish will be provided

Honoring Our Stories Through Peace Circles

Together, participants will share: 1) an example of what they love about their community, 2) a story about something that needs healing in their community, and 3) ideas on what could bring healing in all of our communities.

Led by: Expanded Mental Health Services of Chicago (EMHS)

This activity is appropriate for all ages and abilities. At least one circle will be offered in Spanish.

Building Tomorrow: Rethinking Affordable Housing in Chicago

In this interactive workshop we will look at how specific laws were created to make it harder for our families of color to have access to safe and affordable housing, while creating a vision for what housing in Chicago should look like and what actions we can take.

Led by Communities United.

Translation into Spanish and Arabic will be provided.
