Immigrant Rights


  • Increased access to higher education for undocumented students, including in-state tuition for undocumented students and the Illinois DREAM Act which increases private scholarships for the undocumented and requires the re-training of high school guidance counselors to ensure they are prepared to fully inform undocumented students about their options and resources for higher education
  • Organized to fight deportation proceedings against local residents 
  • Participated in the national Comprehensive Immigration Reform movement which led to President Obama's executive decision to provide work permits to families who came to the US with children and have established their lives here as members of society 
  • Successfully changed Illinois policy to allow immigrants to receive a driver's licenses regardless of their immigration status
