Health Care

  • Organized to restore funding to the local refugee mental health clinic which was going to be shut down due to state budget cuts
  • Organized to get hundreds of thousands of wrongful hospital bills erased for patients who should have qualified for free care under Charity Care guidelines
  • Led a statewide effort that successfully changed policy to require that every financial assistance application in the state include language that clarifies that a social security number is not required to receive financial assistance from care received in a hospital's emergency room
  • Changed policy at Swedish Covenant Hospital to now provide any uninsured patient that walks into the Emergency Room with a financial assistance application up front
  • Engaged local clergy to educate thousands of community members about the financial assistance resources available for low-income uninsured patients in hospital emergency rooms
